Crazy Week Done!?

So the last week has been INSANE! Literaly... So in no particular order, we started with a natural disaster bifecta for our daughter, an earthquake on her birthday, and a hurricaine on her birthday party! Yes, so a birthday and party was in the works for this week. See birthday Pictures Here
It was also her first day of homeschool, so everything that entailed getting setup! Curriculum, Furniture, lesson plans etc!. We also had her first day of Home school co-op!

We also had a consignment sale, which thank God, despite the hurricane actually sold about 90% of our stuff! God is great! Guess we should call it a hurricane sale! so that involved Tagging, and dropping stuff off during the week.

And too top it all off, we added a new family member, Arwen, our new 4 Month old chocolate lab puppy! Sam is adjusting ok so far, right now they are 'aware' of each other, but not being lovely or anything, we'll see if thats how it stays, or if they get more friendly! Anyway we THINK she is going to be sam sized; so another medum size dog; She has the cutest webbed feet; Labs are pretty cool dogs, its no suprise that they are such long running favorites; and they do so well with children too!

Right now she is curled up next to my feet. We are wondering how long the honeymoon period is going to last; so far she is a gentle, not to frisky puppy; who seems perfectly tempered for our household!

School Table For Homeschooling

So we got the table finished! just in time. The funny thing about the pedestal and legs is that I ended up making it to narrow so I couldn't get my hands in to screw on the retaining nuts onto the bolts coming off the legs, so Jordan ended up having to assemble the legs for me...! I couldn't believe she was able to stick her arm up the shoulder into the pedestal, put washer on, and screw on all 8 bolts! She is becoming such a great helper! I am very proud of her.

So The school year starts next Monday! Jordan is entering Kindergarten as a home-school student! We are so excited. As part of the parlor makeover as our one room school house, We needed a new table for all the work they will be doing. To that end I am building one. Tonight I finished turning the pedestal on the mini lathe w/ extension!

2011 Winter Project Complete Built-in Bookshelves

So despite epic cold, long lasting sickness and other brutal realitites of life, we have persevered, and completed our winter project for the year, a beautiful set of Built-in Bookshelves around our fire place in the family room.

While In a technical sense, the crib was probably a bit harder and fancier, this took more time, and had a bit more complexity. Definitely had a lot more wood, and in some ways tighter tolerances.

Without Further ado, here are a couple pictures:

This one is for dad, you can see the Michael Wheland Pern artwork on the TV if you look close!

Last but not least a couple in progress shots:

2010 Spring Recap

So the Fairy hut is done, I ended up with 2 dragon lady cross vines, and a Major Wheeler Honeysuckly. WE put some concrete stepping stones down underneath, and the wood is sprouting willow leaves, I wonder if the main supports will take root!?

We had a great camping trip... If by great you mean having some tents blown apart, and Jordan not sleeping at all the entire night. In fact, not only did she not sleep, but she talked the whole night too.... Jordan doing hand shadows in front of her night light: "Look dad, its my hand!!! ..... Look dad, its my foot!!!!" Repeat about 200 times and you understand my night. By the end of it I was thinking, look Jordan, its my hands around your neck... Fortunately we all made it out alive, and we now have a family camping trip under our belt. Still letting the experience settle; will see if we choose to do it again! Will post some pictures at some point in the near future.
